Clay Echoes: Unearthing Hidden Narratives
The theme “Clay Echoes: Unearthing Hidden Narratives” pays homage to the rich history of ceramics in Greece. The ancient Greek word for pottery, “Κέραμος/Kéramos,” lends its initial “Κ” to the Biennale’s name, symbolizing a deep connection to the material’s local roots.
Supporting Greek Ceramic Art
The Biennale aims to support and promote Greek ceramics to a broader audience, fostering new aesthetic trends, promoting research, and enhancing communication between creators and the public. The event is designed to be decentralized, with each iteration held on a different island, drawing inspiration from the unique history and culture of each location.
Inspired by the archaeological site of Akrotiri, the exhibition will feature twenty original works selected by an international committee of experts. These pieces, created by artists from Greece and abroad, are influenced by the findings from prehistoric Akrotiri and will be on display in the very place that inspired them.
